According to Manchester City chairman Garry Cook, new manager Mark Hughes is just the man to help the club shake off its reputation as underachievers.
Cook and Hughes have taken over the reins at City in the hopes of overturning the embarrassing fact that the club has not won a major trophy since 1976.
Cook said: "We are trying to change the culture - and that doesn't come easily.
"We feel the essence of that culture change will come from Mark and his team. He's about working hard and being committed, and it's about extolling those values throughout the club.
"I'm currently building the business plan and we talk about the football side a lot and 'typical City' is a quote that keeps coming up.
"Hopefully, in the future, when we beat someone 5-0 or 6-0, you can say 'typical City - winning again'. You have to flip the mentality on its head."
He added: "We are living in the shadow of one of the greatest football teams in the world. You can't just flick a switch and make all that go away.
"One of the things that I always say to people here is that it's a dynasty and it takes a long time to create a dynasty.
"If you focus on trying to be Manchester United, you'll only get halfway to being them. If you focus on being yourself, you've got a better chance of beating them."
