West Brom boss Tony Mowbray insists says that neither of his former Villians have anything to prove when they take on Martin O'Neill's men this weekend.
Striker Luke Moore and goalkeeper Scott Carson both plied their trade at Villa Park last season but have since made the Hawthorns their home.
Moore had grown up at the club and came through the ranks to make over 90 first team appearances but was never considered a regular while, Carson, on loan from Liverpool, had been widely expected to seal a permanent deal.
Both players though now find themselves with the Baggies.
"Footballers move on," said Mowbray.
"Every club moves players on.
"Luke Moore left because he wanted to play more football.
"He's probably got a point to prove to his manager here that he's worthy of a starting place week in, week out.
"If you believe newspaper reports Liverpool wanted huge amounts of money for Scott Carson and Villa didn't want to pay that so things moved on.
"I don't think anyone has anything to prove - only to themselves as footballers.
"They just need to do their jobs and continue to improve.
"Don't look to prove other people wrong, just look to yourself and try and be the best you can be."
